Danilović’s thriller at the start of the Belgrade Ladies Open

The second day of the Belgrade Ladies Open 2021 competition on the courts of the Novak Tennis Center brought us quality and exciting matches in which the main favorites recorded victories and a place in the next round of the competition.  

Three Serbian tennis players fought for a place in the second round of the main draw of the WTA125 competition. The victory was recorded by the most experienced, Serbian young and celebrated champion, 20-year-old Olga Danilović, who survived a real thriller in a clash with the Italian Camilla Rosatello 3:6, 6:4, 7:6 (5).

The best junior of Serbia, 16-year-old Lola Radivojevic, provided a great game and resistance against the representative of Germany, the former top ten player of the world, 33-year-old Andrea Petkovic, who reached the second round with a victory 3:6, 7:6 (5), 2:6. The young hope of Serbian tennis, Draginja Vukovic, also provided a great fight against Jessica Ponchet, but the continuation of the tournament was won by the guest from France with the result 1:6, 6:7(4).

The convincing victory was achieved by the first holder of this competition, the Russian Anna Blinkova, leaving her opponents from Bulgaria Isabella Shinikova only three games – 6:1, 6:2. The second seed from the Netherlands, Arantxa Rus, also shone, defeating Elitsa Kostova from Bulgaria 6:1, 6:0. On the third day of the competition first match on Central court will open third seed from Russia Varvara Gracheva againast Kristyna Pliskova. Serbian double Lola Radivojević and Elena Milovanović will fight against the Russian doubles Alena Fomina – Ekaterina Yashina, after which Petković will go on the court against Ponchet. The final match of the third day competiton in Belgrade will bring fight for the quarterfinals by the Serbian national team player Danilović against the second seeded Rus.
