Novak steps towards eternity
The best tennis player on the planet, Novak Djokovic, arrived two steps away from eternity. The world and Serbian sports ace won a place in the semifinals of the Grand Slam competition in New York, the US Open, with a victory in the quarterfinals over the sixth seed from Italy, Matteo Berrettni, 5: 7, 6: 2, 6: 2, 6: 3.
For the placement in the 123rd singl final of his career, the 12th final of the US Open, the 31st final of the Grand Slam, the first after 2018 on the courts of Flushing Meadows, Novak will fight against the 4th seed German Alexander Zverev.
Djokovic is two steps away from the calendar slam, which means winning all four Grand Slam tournaments and within one calendar year. The last time this happened to the Australian Rod Laver was in 1969, when he achieved it for the second time, but the first time in the Open era of tennis.
Novak won three Grand Slam titles this year, the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon, and thus equaled the Swiss tennis player Roger Federer and the Spanish player Rafael Nadal, in the first place with 20 Grand Slam titles each.
